PayMe by Muse Payroll System Product Design
Project Description
Payme by Muse is a payroll automation platform designed for Nigerian businesses. I led product design on this project focusing on payroll automation, tax compliance and recurring payments. The result is a secure, scalable product that reduces manual work and brings clarity to payroll runs through clear readiness checks, audit logs and bank integrations.
Problem we solved
Many Nigerian businesses still run payroll manually in spreadsheets or patchwork systems. That causes late payments, compliance risk, duplicate effort, and lots of reconciliation headaches for finance teams.
Who this is for
Small businesses with fewer than 50 staff that need a simple, compliant payroll workflow
Growth stage businesses that need role based approvals and batch disbursements
Finance teams who need reconciliation and immutable audit logs
My role and contributions
Led end to end product design from research through high fidelity prototypes
Mapped user journeys and wrote the user flows for payroll, recurring payments and approvals
Designed the UI system and components to scale across personal and business dashboards
Produced developer ready assets, API annotations and an SQL schema for rapid integration
Research highlights
Stakeholder interviews with founders and finance leads to confirm pain points around tax compliance and bank reconciliatio
Competitive scan of payroll and payments tools that support multi currency and recurring payments
Usability tests with 8 finance users on wireframes to validate the payroll wizard and approval queue flow
Deliverables I produced
Complete UI component library for employee lists, payroll rows and approval queue
Multi step payroll wizard design with inline editing and bulk actions
Recurring payments designer with calendar preview and partial failure handling
Employee profile page with salary, benefits, deductions and audit trail
Figma file, mock JSON data, CSV templates for imports, and developer notes
Learnings
Finance users prefer compact summaries and one confirm action rather than many micro confirmations
Inline edits are powerful but need easy ways to revert and audit each change
Good CSV mapping and clear error messages reduce onboarding friction for bulk imports
